Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been thoroughly used for
over 4000 years and is a comprehensive medical system with its
own principles, diagnostic methods and therapies. It is used by
25% of the world's population.
TCM views the body as an organic whole with a network of channels
connecting the internal organs, blood, bones, body fluids, ‘Qi'
(pronounced ‘Chee' which means Vital Energy), muscles,
tendons and the skin. The Chinese believe that ‘Qi', which
flows within the channels in the human body, can be enhanced, improved
and nourished so that the patient is not only symptom free but
is healthy and full of vitality with a balance in the body that
prevents illness.
TCM holds the central belief that health in all parts of the body
is due to the relative balance of ‘Yin and Yang'. Yin-Yang
theory forms the basis of TCM's approach to health and illness
and also offers practical guidance in the prevention and management
of illnesses.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture
aims to prevent illness and preserve the well-being of the body
and mind. It involves the insertion of fine, sterilised needles
into the human body at points along the energy meridians. A diagnosis
is made and the acupuncture points are chosen accordingly after
discussion of the symptoms plus a full observation of the patient
(including their pulse and tongue).
A treatment plan is made according to the severity of the symptoms.
The underlying cause of the disease will determine the length of
treatment. If the cause is chronic, regular weekly treatment will
be necessary for a period of two to three months. If, however,
the problem is recent (such as a sporting injury) and the patient
is healthy, then two treatments per week for a couple of weeks
should resolve the injury. Prior to the insertion of the needles
the patient receives 15 minutes of traditional Chinese massage.

Ear Candling
Hopi
Ear Candles are a hollow candle with one end placed in the ear
and the other is lit by a flame. As the candle heats up, a vacuum
is caused and ear wax from deep within your ears and around your
sinuses is brought to the surface and fills the space inside the
candle.
This treatment can be used on anyone over the
age of five and can benefit those with sinus, nose, throat or ear
problems and is a great treatment to keep a ‘clear head’.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion
is the process of burning Mugwort (a Chinese herb) above the skin
to warm the channels and expel cold from the body. It is used to
strengthen the core energy of the body and maintain good health.

Cupping and Scraping
Cupping
involves the placement of suction cups upon the back, which draw
out toxins through the skin’s pores.
Scraping involves Tiger Balm being rubbed into
the back and then being scraped off, drawing out toxins in the
process. (This treatment is also known as a ‘Back Scrape’.)
These methods can also be used for muscle tension
and to aid with ‘flu-like symptoms by detoxifying the body
of impurities.
